The rehabilitation of Jakes Gerwel Drive between Blue Gum Street and Viking Road will help improve the condition and lifespan of this popular road and key transport link.
The roadworks will stretch over 5.6 kms, offering an improved travel experience for road users in the surrounding suburbs of Langa, Bonteheuwel and Epping, as well as the many motorists from across the city who depend on this road daily.
The project will also benefit pedestrians along this stretch of road, with plans including minor improvements to sidewalks as well as repairs to guardrails.
Traffic delays and congestion are to be expected but these will be kept to a minimum, with work taking place only at night (20:00 to 05:00) and in a phased manner. The use of heavy machinery will also result in intermittent noise pollution.
We apologise for the inconvenience that will be caused. Maintenance projects such as these are critical to prolonging the lifespan and safety of our road network, and will be enjoyed by road users for years to come.
